Hacienda La Minita, established in the late 1960s, is a renowned as a pioneer in estate coffee. Located in the “Los Santos” region of Costa Rica, the farm spans 1,200 acres, with 800 acres dedicated to coffee production and 200 acres preserved as natural forest. It sits at altitudes between 3,750 and 6,000 feet, benefiting from a unique microclimate that enhances the coffee’s quality.
The farm produces one crop of coffee annually, primarily from Caturra, Catuai red, Catuai yellow and Tipica Hibrido varieties. About 680 acres are under coffee cultivation, with 1.7 million trees managed through selective pruning and manual weeding. Sustainable practices include minimal use of herbicides and fertilizers, and no insecticides. The farm is Rainforest Alliance certified.
La Minita coffee is meticulously hand-picked up to five times per season to ensure only ripe cherries are harvested. Only 23% of the total crop meets the strict quality standards to be labeled La Minita.
