The Guji Zone in southern Ethiopia is steeped in rich history, having been settled by the Oromia people over 500 years ago, a community that continues to inhabit the region to this day. The name of this coffee is inspired by a truly remarkable discovery: the oldest hominid skeleton ever found, Ardipithecus Ramidus. Unearthed in Ethiopia’s Great Rift Valley, which is located in the Guji Zone, this 4.4 million-year-old fossil was affectionately named Ardi. Coffee holds an inseparable connection to the people living in the Guji Zone, and it was only fitting that this particular coffee was named after such a significant discovery. This specific lot of coffee, harvested in early 2023 in the city of Odo Shakiso, Guji, comes from the producer Biru Bekele, carrying forward the deep cultural heritage of the region.
