This coffee is from the Nensebo distinct in West Arsi, Oromia. It comes to us from washing stations owned by Abebe Mulugeta Kassa Genete and his son Sisay.
The smallholders who deliver to this region pick from trees in semi-forested plots. Like many areas of Ethiopia, the coffee farms are more like forests, with many indigenous tree species planted throughout. Most farmers tend to very small plots of land, harvesting ripe cherries by hand, and delivering them to local collection stations in the afternoon- sometimes by mule or by horse. The cherries are sorted for quality before being laid out on raised beds, where they dry slowly. Workers turn the cherries frequently to ensure even dehydration and clean, fruit forward flavors. The coffee rests once dried, before being milled and prepared for export in Addis Ababa.
